As per the Freedom of Information Act and Protection of Privacy Act, I would request you to kindly provide me with:

  • The number of Study Visa's rejected from India from 1st July, 2023- 1st October 2023 compared to the last one year and with the reasons of the study visas being denied.
Kindly provide with numbers and reasons mentioned for the denial of these study visas.

Explanation for request:

Canada being a popular destination for students to pursue their education and settling, the number of study visas applied have increased in last couple years but with the on-going tension between the Indian and Canadian government a large number of visas have been denied by the IRCC. Therefore, affecting thousands of students and leaving them stranded and helpless. The application processes have been slowed down to a larger extent with the IRCC also giving vague reasons for the denial. So I would like to know the number of study visas denied in the span of 3-4 months and compare them to the last 1 year. 

With the information from this FOI request we could be aware of the reasons given by IRCC for the rejection of the study visas making the students more informed when applying their papers and thus reducing the chances of unspecified refusal. Furthermore various reasons are stated such as 'jobs' or 'finances'. These reasons are really crucial for students as they have to plan their entire future and arrange resources accordingly. Many immigration agencies don't clear certain terms and conditions out to students which might create problems for them in the future.So, students need to be aware such scenarios and be prepared to tackle those.

    I think this is a really interesting FOI request! I think the explanation you included was really well done. I think the request could have been stronger if you hadn't included "the number," because it's likely you'll just get a number. Also, since you're also asking for the reasons it would have been better to ask for a list, data, or spreadsheet. Overall, a great FOI request!

    Really interesting FOI request because in the provided details of months, one of my friend from India also got his study visa denied and with this request we can know about the whole data about it and the links you added to this topic are quite reasonable for this. Overall, great idea.

Data Visualization Analysis: Assignment 1

In all these bar charts and line graphs the data allocation has been done reasonably well with proper color schemes and points on the graphs to easily navigate the viewer. In Figure 3 with the data being so precise the data is closely packed as there is less difference. So, the use of points on the graphs helps us in understanding the data easily. But when the data is constantly changing it becomes hard to keep up with the difference at every step. Therefore, the variations in data can be highlighted more accurately because if the line graphs aren’t clicked the data isn’t shown which eventually becomes hard to understand for the readers. The division of years and months are a bit hard to differentiate as there is a constant change in every step and it cannot be tracked. The gap between 1990-1991 there have been so many changes, but the month wise segregation cannot be seen.
