Data Update 1:Unemployment rate, participation rate, and employment rate by type of student during school months, monthly, unadjusted for seasonality.
1. What dataset will you use for your final report? (title of your dataset, include a link to it and claim it at the URL above)
Title:Unemployment rate, participation rate, and employment rate by type of student during school months, monthly, unadjusted for seasonality.
2. Describe the dataset. What kind of data does it contain?
This dataset has been taken from Stats Canada(Statistics Canada) and shows us the Unemployment rate, participation rate and employment rate for students that could be full-time or part time and non-students. You can customize the data of these tables according to the province, labour force characteristics which include employed, unemployed and the one's participated. Age group is sectioned out from 15-24 years and 15-29 years. The reference or time period as be drawn back to the year 1976.
3. Is there anything about your data that you don’t understand? (i.e. what a column heading means). How will you find this out?
Under the labour force characteristics , there is a section of Participation Rate, along with the unemployment and employment rate, which is a bit hard to understand. If I filter out certain sections I might be able to find this out . As it refers to the individuals that are engaged in jobs i can sort it out removing the employed or the unemployed sections.
4. What are some questions you hope to answer with your data? List at least three. (you don’t need the answers at this point)
1.) What are the Employment rates in Canada, British Columbia specifically for full-time students?
2.) Which Province has the most percentage of women employed?
3.) How much does the employment and unemployment rate change for students during the different time of the year ?
4.) How much did the percentage in employment vary during and post covid period ?
Hi Jasmine, I like the data you have chosen! It would be interesting to look at which province has the highest rate of employment for women and how much the rate changes for students throughout the year. I wonder why the age group only goes up till 29.
ReplyDeleteHi Jasmine, I like this dataset as it can relate to many students who work and study at the same time. Your last question is the most curious to know since many people lost their jobs during covid, so it will be interesting to see if it has raised an appreciate amount. Overall, an excellent analysis.
ReplyDeleteHey Jasmine, I like this dataset as it can show some very interesting information about how employment trends have changed, and the impact COVID-19 has had different groups. I wonder how much of an effect seasonality will have, as it is adjusted for that.
ReplyDeleteHi Jasmine! Great choice in data set, superb range to draw data from. There's alot of interesting questions you can draw from this, women's issues, students issues, affects of COVID, fantastic choice.
